I came along to the JCI Fingal training day because it seems well
organised, and interesting and affordable. That was my first event with
JCI and it went beyond my expectations. At the end of the day we manage
to fulfil it agreeably by meeting new people, learning to be aware of
our senses and intellectual faculties to take conscious control of our
thinking and therefore our life, improve our trading skills and know
better how works JCI….All in one day, all extremely enjoyable.
Thanks again to all the JCI Members and Directors that contributed to this successful day.

JCI FINGAL Training Day Summary
Saturday the 8th of September 2007,
Grand Hotel Malahide from 10.30am - 4pm
The Agenda was as follow:
- 10.30 Kick off over tea and coffee.
- 11am: "Life Success" - give that glorious mind of yours the life changing invitation it deserves
- 12pm: "World Trade Game...A How- To Guide"
- 1pm: Break
- 2pm: "World Trade Game...Theory to Practice!"
- 3pm: "Getting your point across ... Making JCI work for you!"
I came along because it seems well organised, interesting, and
affordable. It was a way for me to make sure JCI could meet my
expectations of learning new things, meet interesting people and
contribute to a better society via community and business projects.
That was my first ever event with JCI and it went beyond my
expectations. It was great and I kept thinking joyfully about it the
day after and still now. The BBQ hosted by Graham later on in the
evening was definitely a delicious cherry topping an already excellent
cake.
Back to the training, once I found the room booked for JCI in the
basement (seem a bit gloomy but it was of very good standard and bright
as well), I had to push myself to talk to yet unknown people in order
to fulfil a questionnaire Órla gave me in exchange of a modest amount
of €20 covering the day’s cost.
With questions like who’s vegetarian or who’s from Munster I had to go
to these strangers and find out! Since I did not want to write down
names I did not know, I had to introduce myself and gain the right of
putting my new acquaintance’s names down on my paper. Well, my efforts
could have been rewarded by winning the promise prize (a bottle of
champagne awarded at the end of the day) but luck decided otherwise and
Kevin was the lucky winner. Well done!
Then, the serious stuff started out with an excellent and inspiring
presentation from Evelyn Cormican. Evelyn introduced us the basic of
success in life and how our positive thinking could lead us to better
results. By being aware of our conscious and unconscious mind and
intellectual faculties, we can definitely act upon turning positively
our feeling.
In short:
- Be aware (who says you can’t do it!)
- Take conscious control of your thinking
- Change feelings in order to change vibrations
- New positives vibrations lead to better results (i.e. Solutions focus rather than problem focus)
The first step is to have an attitude of gratitude and from then on let the law of attraction come into play…
After this inspirational training, it was time to play a little. So
Eugene Garvin introduced us to the WORLD TRADE GAME which was developed
by JCI for JCI. The purpose of this game is to learn/plan/work as a
team/negotiate and trade/review and re plan/compete/strategise and form
alliances. Eugene split the group into teams of 2, each representing a
country with its own natural resources and targets to meet.
The game was set up prior to lunch then we broke for a nice pub lunch
and back to business around 2 o’clock. After 2 rounds of much
negotiation and trading as well as some confusion, MEXICO (Órla &
Brian’s team) did realise the most important growth and won this very
interesting game.
Then, Daragh (JCI Cobh) offered us a seminar on what is JCI and how we
could ‘sell’ it when meeting new people. I think for me this session
was the most instructive because I had still no idea why JCI should be
so special and why I should committed to it. Daragh split the group in
4 so each group could work on the 4 areas of opportunities within JCI.
I have listed below some key words from our brainstorming workshop:
- INDIVIDUAL : Improve leadership skills, public speaking, debate, training days, networking, PRIME, etc.
- COMMUNITY :
Charity and basically do what you want/can/like through community project, etc.
- INTERNATIONAL :
Conferences across the world providing insight to new
cultures, country and allowing networking through internal, social and
business projects, etc …A sense of fellowship building.
- BUSINESS :
Networking events, TOYP (The Outstanding Young Person), Friendly business award, adapt to changes, etc.
And that was how we manage to fulfil agreeably a day at JCI Fingal
meeting new people, learning to be aware of ours senses and faculties
to take conscious control of our thinking and therefore our life,
improve our trading skills and know better how to make JCI work for
us….All in one day, all extremely enjoyable. Thanks again to all the
JCI Members and Directors that contributed to this successful day.
